Motherboard with Intel X79 chipset has been long awaited by the power users and PC enthusiasts. The presence of a new motherboard with LGA2011 socket is positioned to High-end/Enthusiast class and will be paired with the latest generation of Intel processors, Sandy Bridge-E. One of X79 motherboard that arrived to the lab comes from MSI. Bears the name of the motherboard MSI X79A-GD65 model (8D).
X79 motherboard from MSI gives a brief overview of how the 'shape' X79 board later. Perhaps the obvious difference is the use of a DIMM are placed on the right and left of the CPU socket, because later on the Intel X79 platform will use the technology Quad-Channel DDR3 memory. Unfortunately, this causes a space for Voltage Regulator Module (VRM) CPU becomes narrower. The number and configuration of existing PCIe slot for the user should also provide the option to run multi-GPU mode (SLI / CrossfireX).
Additional features such as the typical MSI OC Genie, DirectOC button, and V-Check Point can you find in here. You'll also get the ON / OFF and debug LEDs to simplify troubleshooting during the POST process. Unique things that we have encountered here is 2 (two) jumpers are labeled JCOLD1 and JCOLD2. According to MSI, the use of both jumpers can help the system to boot in very low temperatures, such as LN2 cooling is used.
